Biomechanical Assessment
During a biomechanical assessment, a careful examination is made of the joints, ligaments, muscles and neurovascular supply of the lower limb, with specific attention to areas of pain or discomfort.
This is done with the patient lying, standing and walking or performing certain tasks or sporting movements. This is carried-out on all patients with painful lower limbs or gait.
Video Gait Analysis
Video gait analysis captures gait or sporting activity such as running on video.
It is then slowed down and analysed by the Podiatrist to assess if there are any unnatural stresses and strains on joints or soft tissues during these movements.
Foot Orthoses
Foot orthoses are designed to a cast of your foot and a prescription as specified by the Podiatrist following video gait analysis and biomechanical examination. The casts are laser scanned and CAD-CAM design is used to produce the final orthotic (see here). All bespoke foot orthoses have a lifetime guarantee and can be changed from shoe to shoe..
Conditions
Plantar fasciitis, tibial periostitis, hallux rigidus / limitus, boney and soft tissue deformity, tibialis posterior tendon dysfunction, ankle instability, stress fracturing, morton’s neuroma and most other biomechanical conditions.
Contraindications
Progressed deformities that are operable e.g. late stage II onwards tibialis posterior dysfunction (casts should be taken post-op for bespoke orthoses, but temporary devices can be supplied pre-op if desired).
Richie Brace
Combining an ankle support and a foot orthotic into a long-term, bespoke device.
Indications: Tibialis posterior dysfunction, drop foot, lateral ankle instability
Contraindications: Able to control symptoms with foot orthotic
Prescription sandals
Enables patients to wear their orthoses during the summer, in a sandal of their choice.
Indications: Patients who need to wear orthoses all the time and want
to wear sandals for some of this time.
Contraindications: None
Running shoe and footwear assessment
Running shoes and shoes in general are all important to the way we walk and run. Simply wearing the wrong shoe type for your foot can lead to pain in the feet and elsewhere in the body. Walkrite Podiatrists can assess your footwear and advise the best type of shoe for you and your lifestyle.
